Students from CMP are invited to participate in Sacramento State’s Academic Talent Search (ATS) Program! ATS provides 4th through 9th graders a preview of college through fun, interactive, and unique summer courses held in University classrooms and labs. Courses cover traditional subjects as well as new and creative topics not always available in regular school.
Since 1982 over 47,500 young scholars have participated in ATS, and this past summer 95 classes were offered to students. Committed to making this pre-college experience available to all students, ATS offers testing fee waivers and scholarships to students with financial need. ATS is a self-supporting program that receives no University, state, or federal funding.
ATS has two summer programs: one for 4th-5th grades, and one for 6th-9th grades. 4th and 5th graders can explore hands-on classes designed to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills while engaging with other students who share their enthusiasm for learning. 6th through 9th graders can accelerate their learning in traditional subjects and discover college majors and potential career paths as they gain self-confidence and independence in a university environment. ATS students have access to many university facilities like the library, University Union, Hornet Bookstore, and campus eateries!
To join in on this fun and unique opportunity, students take a short exam that automatically qualifies them for the program. No test preparation is required since it is not a “pass or fail” test. CMP-Shingle Springs will be offering testing on Tuesday, February 18 at 1:30 pm in Spruce. Students should be completed with the testing and available for regular pick up.
